“The beachside joint touts itself as the ultimate romantic dining locale when you see the views at sunset you'll understand why”
Malibu old-timers remember the days when Moonshadows was the ultimate surfer hangout back in the heyday of the '70s. Today the beachside joint touts itself as the ultimate romantic dining locale -- and when you see the views at sunset you'll understand why. Those lucky enough to nab the primo window tables can watch as the surf rolls up and under the restaurant and maybe even spy a playful dolphin or sea lion out in the rocky waters.

Moonshadows' locale dictates seafood -- and they've got plenty of it. The menu is chock full of ocean delicacies with a few turf and salad options to appease landlubbers. While the food has never garnered rave reviews the culinary experience isn't what it's all about. It's the romance of the ocean and the whisper of salt air as you sip your Chardonnay that makes the trip up PCH worthwhile.

“Asian-tinged seafood shines at this Malibu waterfront restaurant”
The understated, Japanese-inspired interior provides a comfortable perch from which to enjoy stunning ocean views. With the umbrella-dotted patio cantilevered over the cliff, diners feel surrounded by water and sky. The main room boasts abstract nudes, rich wooden details and subdued lighting from hanging shell lamps. The bar area is more intimate, with tables for two. Service is friendly and efficient, with a subtle casualness that fits the beachside location.

“The water views and the sounds of the surf add to the Riviera vibe”
Managing partner Andrea Bullo breathes new life into a Malibu landmark. The water views and sounds of the surf plus the trendy young crowd sipping cocktails in the outdoor lounge and listening to Ex-Europe deejay Harvey add to the Riviera vibe.
